At 7:12 p.m. Monday, Evesham police officers who were assigned to the July 4th celebration events at Savich Field, 525 East Main St., were advised by a citizen about an intoxicated man who possibly had a firearm, police said.

Officers immediately converged on the man, who was identified by police as Blaine J. McCammack, 29, of Wailuku, Hawaii. McCammack began acting disorderly and was immediately taken into custody, police said.

A search resulted in McCammack being found in possession of an airsoft revolver-style handgun that was loaded with rubber bullets, police said.

McCammack also was found in possession of pepper spray that was over the weight threshold permitted to be carried in New Jersey, along with a butterfly knife and handcuffs, police said.

McCammack was taken to Police Headquarters, where he was interviewed by members of the Evesham Police Investigative Bureau.

At this time, there is no reason to believe that McCammack intended to carry out an assault on patrons of the July 4th celebration events, police said.

McCammack was charged with creating a false public alarm, disorderly conduct, weapons offenses and possession of a self-defense chemical, police said.

Evesham Police said they were "incredibly grateful for the alert citizen who immediately reported this incident to nearby Officers and we encourage all citizens to follow the motto, “'f you see something, say something.' "
